For more than 200 years the life and music of Domenico Zipoli was shrouded in mystery. Mark Latimer brings together performers and fellow musicians in a specially-written story based on the fragments gathered of one man’s journey from Europe to the rainforests of South America in 1717. The Imperfect Pearl, or perola barroca, describes the dissonances of his life and the baroque music which drove him. The music performed will include works by European and South American baroque composers Domenico Zipoli, Manuel de Sumaya, Andrea Falconieri, Gaspar Fernandes and Juan Garcia De Zespedes, and today’s Guarani Indians of Bolivia.
