Gloucester’s foremost chamber choir will perform two major choral works in the beautiful surroundings and acoustic of Tewkesbury Abbey. Handel’s exuberant, dramatic and colourful ‘Dixit Dominus’ presents something of a vocal workout for the singers with many thrilling virtuosic passages. Haydn’s ‘Nelson Mass’ contains some of Haydn’s most beautiful music, moving from the depths of despair to the greatest joy.

The Saint Cecilia Singers will be accompanied by the highly-regarded Corelli Orchestra on period instruments and the choir’s musical director Jonathan Hope on organ. Guest conductor for the evening is Benjamin Nicholas, director of music at Merton College, Oxford.
